Social networking apps continue to be a staple on iOS devices, and Sensor Tower's data offers a glimpse into the performance of the leading platforms in France during the first quarter of 2024.
Threads, an Instagram app started strong with around 214K downloads in the first week of January, but saw a decline to approximately 90K by the end of March. Weekly active users fluctuated, peaking at nearly 400K users in the second week of January and again in mid-March.
Telegram Messenger showed a surge in downloads, from about 45K in early January to over 124K in early March, before settling to nearly 50K by the quarter's end. Revenue trends were modest, starting at around $20K and dipping to approximately $16K in the final week. The app's weekly active users saw a significant jump to 2.75M in early March from 2.19M at the year's start.
WhatsApp Messenger, despite generating no revenue, maintained a steady download rate, hovering between 50K and 76K throughout the quarter. Its weekly active users showed a slight increase, starting at 17.15M and rising to over 17.25M by March's end.
Facebook experienced relatively stable download numbers, with around 46K in early January and approximately 38K by late March. Revenue dipped slightly from $12K to $8K over the quarter. Weekly active users saw a marginal increase, starting at 10.02M and peaking at 10.09M in early March.
Lastly, Messenger maintained consistent download rates, starting at about 35K and ending at 28K. Active users saw a decline from 6.71M to 6.13M over the quarter, with a brief spike to 6.85M in late February.
